The Music and Math Connection — Excerpt from the Little Monkey HK Series!

  • Share this:

In this excerpt from an interview with @littlemonkeyhk , I share one of the connections between Music and Math: Pattern Recognition (also Pattern Awareness).

For children in the early years, recognising and responding to patterns is a key developmental skill. It allows children to predict and anticipate what happens next in a sequence, which allows them to participate in logical reasoning and critical thinking.

Patterns are part of our daily lives more than we can imagine— from dancing some steps, to riding a bike, to following a recipe in the kitchen.

Participating in simple nursery rhymes— and integrating our mind and bodies in the process— reinforce the understanding of these patterns, and prepare our brains for these functions for the rest of our lives.

If this sounds like a bundle of confusing theories, watch this video (and the rest of the interview) to see how these concepts translate to your child’s daily life.

Remember— you are your child’s most important teacher. We are here to share the concepts of learning, but ultimately— you would know how to creatively incorporate these in ways that matter to your family.

Do tell me how this fits in yours!
